The commandment of need in the concrete injection industry based on The Millionaire Fastlane by M. J. DeMarco
Making money in the concrete injection repair industry is far more than just drilling holes and injecting resin. There’s a lot you can do to make your business more like an automated money-spinning machine like Amazon, Facebook, or Google. Does your company look like these giants? And what about your business model? So don’t be surprised by the lower earnings.
A few years ago I read a book that changed the way I think about running a business and making money. In a way, this book turned my world upside down.
This book is The Millionaire Fastlane by M. J. DeMarco
The Millionaire Fastlane is a book that will teach you how to build wealth. Demarco shares the secret to becoming a millionaire at any age. And it is not the kind of advice you receive from financial gurus, parents, or friends, or anyone actually. This book has changed the way I run my business, it has changed the way I see the whole repair industry. I strongly recommend you to find this book, read it and learn a different way of thinking about earning money. MJ made me understand that my business, although necessary and really helpful for many people, many clients, is not an automatic computer-based money-making machine.
Before reading the book I was kind of proud of what I do and how I’m able to find and attract new clients. Later it was all gone.
It is one thing to know that there are different business models out there, and another to really understand what it is all about and learn about the power of automation vs trading your time for money. I also realized that I will probably not become a millionaire doing things the same way all the time. The book lists 5 Commandments that determine whether a given business will be a Fastlane business. A Fastlane business is one that allows you to earn quickly and a lot without the owner’s spending time.
But I figured out that maybe I don’t have to close my business right away and look for new ideas.
Maybe it would be enough to streamline an existing, needed, and important concrete repair business into something that at the same time allows the automation of some processes.
And even if your business, just like mine, is not based on 24-hour servers, we can use this knowledge to improve our situation.
Today we’re starting a series of 5 episodes.
It will be released every few episodes, maybe every 2, maybe 3 episodes. We will discuss these 5 Commandments and consider together how we can adapt them in terms of concrete repair and sealing services. While there are obvious limitations of concrete injection repair, namely that you do it in the physical world, there are virtual tools that can help you do the job more effectively (software, calculators, checklists) and a whole range of automated marketing tools.
By doing this you’ll grow your business and make more money without having to put in more of your own time and energy into it. Automated, just like an online business. Think of it as bringing an online business into the real world.
I’m talking about the transition to Fastlane, at least to some degree. What aspects can we adopt?
MJ mentions Five commandments in his book.
For a business to make money fast, it has to follow these five commandments, so let’s apply them to the concrete injection and concrete repair industry.
These 5 Commandments are as follows:
1. The commandment of need. Businesses satisfy the needs of people. Don’t chase money. Rather, look at how your business will help other people
2. The commandment of entry. As entry barriers to a business fall, or lessen, the effectiveness of that road declines while competition in that field subsequently strengthens. To overcome weak entry, you need exceptionalism
3. The commandment of control. Run an organization that you control or you will be at the mercy of someone else
4. The commandment of scale. Increase scale and magnitude in your business
5. The commandment of time. Your business should detach you from your time
Today, let’s focus on the First commandment.
The commandment of need. Businesses satisfy the needs of people. Don’t chase money. Rather, look at how your business will help other people.
Your business has to solve someone’s problem. someone’s pain point. In general, it can be said that the world needs a concrete injection.
This business already exists, is being developed, is known all over the world. Right now, while I’m making this podcast, my employees are injecting a cold joint at one of my construction sites. I bet that while you are listening to this episode, there are also injections going on in many buildings around the world.
It is not like a startup that at the beginning of its operation must necessarily examine the needs of customers and adapt to them. We have many contractors, producers, specialists, and suppliers. We don’t need to do market research to see if this service is needed. But on the other hand, I am still surprised to discover how many people do not know about the existence of injection technology. There are also those who do not believe in its possibilities, they have seen the botched repair and on this basis have formed an opinion about the entire industry. There are also those who are not bothered by leaks. They say: it has been leaking, it leaks and it will be leaking. It’s always been leaking here. Why bother with it at all?
In the end, there are those who mask the problem or try to solve it by any means, but not by injection. I mean the installation of trays or buckets for water under expansion joints or cracks. Others, in turn, exclude parking spaces from use, saying that parking is not allowed here. They simply lose their money without knowing it can be different. At the same time, we lose the possibilities to fix it and earn. We need to make sure that our client is aware of pain points and understand it, and see it,
We need to make our clients anxious to get rid of leakages.
How?
By doing good marketing.
Marketing is a king
We should show damages and their consequences. We should Illustrate leaks, pictures of water damage and devastation, bridges collapsed, and most importantly loss of money. I believe that education (namely content marketing) is extremely important. When we deal with people who cannot see the problem in a cracked leaky ceiling, we all have to take a step back and start educating the market and even society as a whole. We need to build a market, build society’s awareness of a problem. We should push permanent solutions, not temporary fixes. When people understand that what they see is a problem, they will start looking for solutions. And then the market will grow, it will become mature, eager to improve its situation. The market will start investing in renovations. I have already talked about it in one of the previous episodes. It is also important to do your job correctly, as it will also contribute to public confidence in the solutions that come with injection.
So if you want your client to be determined to place an order for your services, do it correctly. Build relationships, solve problems, and your business will be needed.
And when it is needed, you won’t have to chase money anymore. It is the customers who will be calling you.
OK, that’s it for this part of the series. I hope that this information will prove helpful to you.
Until next time.
